Black Dahlia Part 3: Seven Years Later, I Read the Black Dahlia Case Again
In Part 3 of the Black Dahlia deep dive, Heather finishes the forensic analysis of her original 2019 psychic reading and follows several unexpected threads that emerged during the research.
This episode digs into Elizabeth Short’s Hollywood circle, including Anne Toth, Mark Hansen, Maurice Clement, Dr. Patrick O’Reilly, and the explosive Brenda Allen scandal that exposed corruption inside the LAPD. As those connections begin overlapping, the reading starts looking less like a story about one mysterious killer and more like a glimpse into the complicated social world surrounding Elizabeth before her death.
In the final installment of our three-part Black Dahlia deep dive, we move beyond the familiar suspects and into the complicated web of people surrounding Elizabeth Short in the months before her murder.
Part 3 follows several names and connections that emerged while Heather was conducting a forensic review of her original 2019 psychic reading. That trail leads through Elizabeth’s Hollywood social circle and into a world populated by nightclub owners, doctors, questionable associates, organized vice, and an LAPD already struggling with serious allegations of corruption.
Among the people examined are Anne Toth, Mark Hansen, Maurice Clement, and Dr. Patrick O’Reilly, along with the explosive Brenda Allen scandal and what it reveals about prostitution, protection, and corruption in 1940s Los Angeles.
And that context matters.
Because one of the strongest themes running through Heather’s original reading was that Elizabeth’s murder may not have happened in isolation. The reading repeatedly suggested multiple people, a man Elizabeth knew and trusted, the presence or involvement of another woman, and the possibility that people surrounding the crime knew considerably more than they ever admitted.
But this series was never supposed to be an exercise in proving a psychic reading correct.
Heather continues the forensic audit of the 2019 session by identifying the misses, examining information she could have encountered before the reading, and separating possible psychic impressions from details that may have been influenced by the enormous mythology surrounding the Black Dahlia case.
Then, seven years after the original session, Heather reads the case again.
With years of distance, significantly more historical research, and a very different understanding of Elizabeth Short’s world, she conducts a new tarot reading to see whether the story changes.
Instead, several familiar themes return.
A romantic or trusted male connection. More than one person surrounding what happened. A woman whose role may have been more important than it first appears. And once again, the unsettling possibility that the person responsible for Elizabeth’s death may not have been the same person responsible for the mutilation and disposal of her body.
Nearly 80 years after Elizabeth Short was murdered, her case remains officially unsolved. Part 3 doesn't pretend to solve it.
Instead, we finish where this investigation was always meant to go: separating history from mythology, psychic perception from contamination, and asking whether some of the strangest details from a reading conducted in 2019 deserve another look.
